The Carl Martin is a rugged beast of a tuner, with ±1.0 cent detection accuracy, super-simple controls, and a large, easy to see display. It’s basic and built to last.
Korg’s Pitchblack Plus is underrated gem of a tuner. In addition to its excellent ±0.1 cent accuracy and wide range of tuning options, this tuner offers dual input jacks with each jack accommodating separate tuning settings. Now discontinued, you can often find good deals for the Plus on Reverb.
Peterson’s made-in-the-USA StroboStomp is a fully-featured beast of a pedal tuner, providing ±0.1 cent detection accuracy, and extra-wide detection and calibration ranges. It’s fully programmable and offers 25 Peterson-designed “Sweetened Tunings” along with many advanced features (like ground lift). It is, however, big and pricey.
Rocktron’s Unity tuner looks like an artifact from the Soviet Union, with an overbuilt enclosure and polished metal finish, but the manufacturer’s failure to provide basic specs (like detection accuracy and detection range) sets off warning flares.
Shure packs a nice tuner into its GLXD6 wireless system, offering decent ±1.0 cent detection accuracy, wide detecion rnage, good usability and a clear, crisp LED display. It’s a sensible choice for wireless users.
