Fender’s free app sports a clean, modern design and lots of alternate tunings, but the tuner’s essential feature — its tuning meter display — is slow, jumpy and often frustrating to use.

The Fender FTN-1 is a pretty average LED pedal tuner, offering ±1.0 cent detection accuracy and true bypass. But there are better tuners out there in this price range.
The MetroPitch is solid contender in the pocket-sized tuner/metronome category, offering a jog-wheel and 1/8-inch headphone jack, along with a wide calibration range.
Kliq’s TinyTune is similar to tuners offered by Aroma/Tomsline, Tetra-Teknica and Neewer, but the US-based company is easy to contact and provides top-notch customer service.
The UberTuner offers a large crisp, colorful display along with robust calibration and transposition options and instrument-specific tunings. Kliq also provides a three-year warranty.
Korg’s GA-1 is a basic, inexpensive and pocket-sized tuner specially designed for guitar and bass. It’s a great, sturdy, no-frills tuner well-suited to beginners.
The GA-40 has been a staple of Korg’s tuner line-up since 2005. It’s a basic, inexpensive and rugged little unit with a few nice-to-have extra features. Intended for use with guitar and bass only.
Korg’s Pitchblack Plus is underrated gem of a tuner. In addition to its excellent ±0.1 cent accuracy and wide range of tuning options, this tuner offers dual input jacks with each jack accommodating separate tuning settings. Now discontinued, you can often find good deals for the Plus on Reverb.
While not quite the PolyTune killer that Korg might have intended, the Pitchblack Poly is a rugged, easy-to-use polyphonic tuner, with a display that automatically switches from single-string to polyphonic display modes. Detection accuracy is ±1.0 cent in both modes.
Korg’s Pitchblack Portable is a strange but awesome piece of gear – a sort of hybrid pedal/console tuner with superb ±0.1 cent accuracy (±1.0 cent in polyphonic mode). Its lack of a footswitch for the mute function makes it a better choice for the workbench than the pedalboard.
